What are Micro-fibres? How do they Work?

Microfibre cloths are an essential part of the Eco Smart Organics cleaning process. Micro-fibre cleaning materials are made up of multitudes of minute synthetic short (2-3mm long) hairs. These fibres help hook out dirt, dust, grease and oily deposits, taking away moisture, food particles, along with almost all other contaminants like (bacteria) from ALL surfaces, by using both a mechanical cleaning action and osmosis effect. Some manufacturers claim that the advantage of their products is that only a little (cold) water is needed to get good results and high hygiene levels.

A review in of the leading manufacturers' bathroom Hand Mitts was featured in the Choice 2005 report. The results are summarised below:

Likes

Dislikes

  • No need for chemical cleaners, therefore cost savings, water-saving, less damage to the environment and less exposure to chemical cleaner fumes.
  • Convenience and ease of use.
  • Effective. Trialists felt the mitts did a good job removing soap scum, dust and dirt, without redistributing them to other areas.
  • Germs: concerns about how well the mitts disinfected surfaces and removed germs compared to chemical cleaners.
  • Elbow grease required, especially for removing stubborn stains.
  • The need to wipe surfaces dry with another cloth after using the mitt, increasing cleaning time.
  • Unpleasantly wet mitts and long drying times.
  • Special washing requirements.

Would they switch from conventional chemical cleaners?
The testers felt that the mitts, on average, cleaned similarly to their usual cleaning method, but this didn't translate into high conversion rates, especially for the highest priced Hand Mitt.

Eco Smart Organics enjoys all the benefits of this Eco Friendly cleaning method but brings further benefits - namely the carnauba wax protection - together with the natural additives which work together to make the cleaning process easier and faster, especially with more stubborn food deposits…WITHOUT the use of harmful and hazardous chemicals!

This allows our customers the best of both worlds! We address the major dislikes raised by the Choice trialists and include all the features that the trialists liked about microfibre-only cleaning methods.

    Eco Smart Organics - Conclusions

Eco Smart Organics recommends our simple microfibre cloths to our customers - these are cost-effective and give good results. We find that as our customers get used to using microfibre cloths, they often progress to using mitts for cleaning more intricate areas. Eco Smart Organics supplies 30% polyamide 40cm x 40cm 280gsm micro fibre cloths; these are folded over twice into a quarter, forming a handy sized cleaning pad, giving potentially 8 separate cleaning faces per cloth. A separate dry microfibre cloth should be used to buff over all the cleaned areas, spreading and drying our product before sealing in the high carnauba wax polished finish.

The product is sprayed directly onto the micro-fibre cloth and used to clean the surfaces; once the exposed face of the cloth becomes heavily soiled, it is folded over, exposing a new fresh cleaning face. This prevents the further spread of dirty water or contaminants, whilst also automatically heling control over-use of the product. This offers an important advantage over the cold water cleaning model, in which dirty water (in the mitt) is potentially spread around as the cleaning progresses; using Oasis Waterless™ or BIO-OASIS, the product is freshly applied as and when required, with the 8 potential cleaning faces folded in as soon as they became soiled.

The cold water cleaning model leaves the cleaned surfaces exposed to new dirt, food or many other chemicals and contaminants. Under extreme conditions could lead to degradation of those surfaces due to corrosive or natural oxidizing processes. For example, wine and champagne have highly acidic concentrations and could damage the exposed surfaces.

The carnauba wax content protects the surfaces. Additional anti-bacterial properties are also achieved as waxes are themselves a natural barrier to bacterial breeding and it's surface tension properties causes beeding of liquids and prevents them spreading over newly treated surfaces. Quite simply the liquid droplets will sit more readily into a series of small isolated puddles on ALL flat horizontal work surfaces, unable to creep and spread across the material surfaces. Hence any liquid food droplets will not ingress or spread as easily, as when the same deposits are deposited onto the exposed material surfaces produced by using cold water cleaning.
The larger the spread of ANY bacterial contamination the far higher the chances of coming into HUMAN contact with it.

    Eco Smart Organics - Bio-Oasis™
In the case of Bio-Oasis™ the active agents present give up to 24 hours' protection. This gives further ease of mind, together with the extra benefits of the wax coating, combined with the pleasing vanilla scented aroma.

Eco Smart Organics - Final 'End of Clean' Micro-fibre Wash
The very nature of the organic extracts used in both the Oasis Waterless™ & Bio-Oasis™ products assist greatly in the removal of the soiled particles from within the dense micro fibres. This means that only a minimal care being needed to get them clean, greatly extending their performance and overall lifecycle. The final re-cycling wash is most easily achieved in a bucket of warm water with a only a little washing powder; simply hand wash, gently squeeze out then hang out on the line to dry. They can also be added into the normal family machine wash but it is not recommended to use fabric conditioners, in order to prolong the stiffness and life of the micro-fibre cloths.
